Rising artist Dlai just dropped a hot new single titled “Outta Town Freak” ft. Khris Kambo. We decided to track him down for an exclusive interview for Camden Monthly…
What inspired you to get into music?
Might be a weird answer, but what inspired me to get into music was just the realization life is
short. We might not have the gift of tomorrow to express ourselves or leave something behind (some
sort of legacy, whether big or small), so every day is an opportunity to be inspired and to inspire
others. Music is the vehicle to do exactly that. It allows people to transcend time and seek peace.
How would you describe your music?
The best way to describe my music is it’s the perfect blend of old school mixed with the new
generation of R&B. A little nostalgic, but wavy with current trends. As an artist, my goal is to evolve on the musical frontier, while taking risks to blend different genres of music, to create something truly special and unique.
What would you say is your recording and songwriting style?
My recording and writing style are spontaneous, at the moment, issa vibe kinda shit. I freestyle
most of my songs. Once I hear something, I vibe a certain way and the words just flow with
vulnerability and meaning.
Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years’ time?
Honestly, who knows where my music will be in 5 years’ time. Music is subjective, not objective.
I can only stick to my rhythm and flow, messages, and beliefs. Hopefully, that’s enough for the
short term. In the meantime, my purpose is to create so listeners can relate to my energy,
message, and sound.
Where can music fans listen to your music?
Fans can listen on all DSPS:
• Spotify
• Apple Music
• YouTube
