In this weekend’s ‘Music in Focus’ issue, we caught up with musician Zaid “A.Z.I” Sewer as he talks about his inspirations, songwriting skills and much more.
What inspired you to get into music?
I started off as playing the double tenor steel pan at age 5, then learned piano at 12, then got into production, and by time I got to college. I found myself singing and recording myself more.
How would you describe your music?
My music is very introspective. It is blend of all my genre influences such as R&B, Reggae, Soca, EDM, and others.
What would you say is your recording and song writing style?
I like to shut the world out and write. I find myself coming up with melodies first, then the lyrics pretty much write themselves. I’m often using my voice notes and notepad apps. I like to record at home in complete darkness and pretend I’m somewhere else.
Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
In 5 years, I see myself touring and visiting countries like the UK, Japan, Caribbean islands, etc. I also see myself doing lots of collaborations and using my music to start conversations about relationships and internal dilemmas.
Where can music fans listen your music?
My music is on all streaming platforms. Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud, Amazon Music, Google Play, Pandora, etc.
