After producing such records as Said That by Dan Cooney, and Birds Freestyle by Enoch, Focus Jordan realized it was time to find his own voice to be heard. “I was in all of these writing sessions between the city and the home studio producing for everyone besides myself. I’m extremely proud of what we’re doing, but am I saying what I need to say?” Drawing from his own hardships, and the beachy streets of New Jersey, Priority Wave was born. The new single ‘Artwork’ is certainly a certified hit. The production is certainly high quality and the hook reminds of something the likes of Drake will do comfortably. Focus Jordan has managed to find the right balance between a track you can listen to, chill to or one that will connect to his core fanbase. We caught up with Focus Jordan for our quick fire round interview..
What inspired you to get into music?
I feel like my whole life to some extent I always heard song arrangements. When I was about 15 I got suspended from school for a few weeks for fighting with a kid about a girl. A few days into being stuck at home my brother asked me if I ever heard of the music production program FL studios. I fell in love that week and 8 years later here we are.
How would you describe your music?
Priority Wave is a project I launched to separate the music I produce for myself from the music I produce for others as Focus Jordan. I wanted to speak to this weird dichotomy of how endearing and beautiful growing up by the beach could be, while still facing hardships as a kid and really having to graft to get by. It’s a beachy relaxing vibe, with some hip hop flare and a steady head-bobbing rhythm.
What would you say is your recording and song writing style?
When I’m producing as Focus Jordan, my songwriting style varies wildly. For my Priority Wave project, I want to inflect that outside of the music I write, I’m a competent lyricist. So I focus a lot on wordplay and using syllables to find a more musical quality with the words, so I’m walking this sing-rapping line as opposed to trying to spit straight bars like an MC
Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
In one year since I built my studio and started producing for other artists, between myself and others, I currently have 11 records out. As a kid who didn’t have resources to move my dream forward for a long time, I want to help others. I hope in 5 years time I’m approaching 50 records on platforms, and have secured some type of publishing deal as a songwriter/producer.
Where can music fans listen your music?
You can find Priority Wave, as well the Produced by Focus Jordan playlist on all the major streaming platforms, as well as Pandora, Tidal, and a few others. Enjoy!
