Audiences can quickly recognize and relate to an artist who can sing a story as though she has lived it….every line of lyric. Listening to her new single ‘Advantage’ is clear to see that HeyTasha is one of those rare breeds of artists, one who can pin the sincerity meter into the red every time she steps up to a microphone. We caught up with the up and coming singer/songwriter with an exclusive interview with Camden Monthly Newspaper.
What inspired you to get into music?
My grandmother inspired me to take my music career seriously. She saw that I was gifted when I was very young and acted on it. She drove me to music lessons every Tuesday for years. This song has been her favorite so far!
How would you describe your music?
My music is a reflection of me! I am aware of my emotions and not afraid to speak on them.
What would you say is your recording and song writing style?
My recording and writing style is unique. I typically get song inspirations while I’m taking a shower. I reflect a lot in the bathroom so I usually come up with a hook first then write verses from there. Melodies randomly pop into my head so if I’m not near my equipment, I’ll record myself on my phone before I forget. It starts off as humming then eventually turns into words. It’s strange now that I’m typing it out but it works for me.
Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
In 5 years I’m hoping to have a few Grammys! I really want to have my music featured in movies, television shows and maybe even a musical. Some collaborations I’d be interested in are with 21 savage, Lizzo, Demi Lovato, Tank, Drake and Snoop Dogg.
