Introducing Ilkay Cetin, a 24 year old musician born and raised around Stuttgart, Germany. He started rapping, writing poems and lyrics for songs since the tender age of 11. We caught up with IIkay Cetin for an exclusive interview on Camden Monthly Newspaper.
What inspired you to get into music?
English isn’t my mother tongue, but I was always was into English hip hop and rap music, so I started rapping myself. I always found it quite calming to write my thoughts down on a blank piece of paper and put some rhythm between the lines, and I became quite good at it.
How would you describe your music?
My music is a reflection of myself, the dark, as well as the bright side. And I fused booth sides on this album particularly. It’s classic hip hop, you know, I take you back to the roots, a place where lyrics and skills still matter. Straight up old school with a modern flavor.
What would you say is your recording and songwriting style?
Really fast. Yeah, that’s it. I spill it out of me. I don’t take a lot of time to edit or rewrite anything.I take it as it comes, when I feel inspired I just go and give it my all.
Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years’ time?
I don’t want to be a big star. But I want to reach people and get a positive message across.I want to educate the children on subjects where education is most needed.I see myself in a position of making a difference, just like Pac said: ‘my mission is to be more than just a rap musician. The elevation of today’s generation, if I can make em listen.’
